Autism Edmonton enhances the lives of people on the autism spectrum, through knowledge, services and inclusive opportunities.

Occasio Summer Program AM

Event Date:
Thursday, August 13, 2020 - 9:30am
Occasio is back! Like most of life, Occasio looks a little different this year due to Covid-19.  We are running most of our summer program this year using a single site.  We are very fortunate to have teamed with Winnifred Stewart Association to use their Gym and facilities, as well as the outdoor space around this site -11130-131 Street.  Our goal is to provide opportunities to socialize with Architects and participants whilst teaching and maintaining physical distancing and strong hygiene. There will be a variety of activities per session that the participants will rotate through with the same Social Architect.  We will have extra staff on hand to do cleaning and prep. We will be both indoors and outdoors for activities.
Inspired by what would have been the 2020 Olympics, Autism Edmonton is launching Occasio Games!

Occasio Games is envisioned as a series of multi-sport activities for children and youth on the Autism spectrum, which will be offered to the Occasio participants throughout August 2020. The main focus of the Games is not competition but encouraging participation in a variety of sports/parasports and fostering positive experience in games.  The participants will have a chance to complete them on any day they register (this does not include days outside of the gym). It's an opt-in program and will not fill three hours of activity.  Participants that complete the activities will get a participation prize at the end of the month!

The schedule is as follows:

  • Week 1 – August 4-7 – Boccia Ball & Volleyball
  • Week 2 – August 10-14 – Batter Up / Kickball & Bowlerama
  • Week 3 – August 17-21 – Team Tennis, Targetball, Relay
  • Week 4 – Week 24-28 – Passball & Scoopball, Dance Machine
