Our Staff

Deborah Barrett originally became involved with ASEA as a way to learn more about how to influence social policy and create opportunities for her son, who has classical autism. She has been a board member and editor of Autism Now since 2001, and was president of the board from 2005 to 2008. Deborah is currently the Interim Director of Community Awareness and Development.

Karen Phillips is the parent of a young man with an autism spectrum disorder. She was active as a volunteer for ASEA for many years, before becoming our Program Director. Karen is responsible for creating and staffing programs. If you have questions about programs or ideas about new ones, be sure to talk to Karen.

Yvette Prefontaine is an artist and pursuing a Fine Art certificate from the U of A Extension. She started work as an administrative assistant, part-time with the Autism Society of Edmonton and Area in June, 2006.  Yvette does data entry, takes phone calls, does filing, and mailouts of information pamphlets and booklets on autism and Asperger's Syndrome to parents and others. She also faxes information to those seeking information.   Yvette loves to draw and paint whenever she finds the time. Yvette also enjoys being part of the Autism Society Players drama group which meets Friday evenings."

Patricia Terrett has a background in psychology and counselling, which serves her well in her role as Family Support Worker. Patti runs groups for parents of children who have just been diagnosed, parents who are feeling isolated, and parents who want to share the joys and challenges of raising children on the autism spectrum.
