Summer Program

Each summer ASEA provides summer programs for children and teenagers with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Summer programs provide safe, supported, recreational and social opportunities for children with autism, and provides relief for families.

The ASEA 2009 Summer Program is finished for the year. Look for information about Summer Program 2010 in May 2010.

The Autism Society of Edmonton Area (ASEA) Summer Program 2010

For Children and Teens: "Fun in the Sun"

  • Community recreation for children, and respite for parents;
  • For children between the ages of 6 and 17 years.
  • Parents may register their children for up to three full days per from June 28th to August 20th.
  • Daily hours, 9:00am to 4:00pm
  • Minimum staff ratio: two youth leaders for each three children (one to one supervision is available if approved).
  • Two locations: East central and West central.
  • Community activities include: swimming, water parks and playgrounds, Our Lady Queen of Peace Ranch, picnics, walks, hikes in the River Valley, movies, bowling, summer festivals, etc.

"Youth Volunteer Experience Summer Program"

  • An opportunity for teens and young adults with ASD, aged 16 to 22 years, to volunteer and make a contribution to their community.
  • Volunteer placements suited to the individual skills and abilities of the youth
  • With support from our team of summer volunteer coaches and various community partners, participants will gain valuable hands-on experience, learning about the demands and benefits of volunteering.
  • Our aim is for participants to enjoy an individualized and practical summer experience, and for families and friends to gain new insight into the strengths and capabilities of their loved ones with ASD.

"Summer Program Junior Youth Leader"

  • Paid summer jobs for teens or young adults who have ASD and are between the ages of 16 and 22 years.
  • Junior Youth Leaders, under the supervision of a job coach, will supervise children during their various "Fun in the Sun" activities.
  • The job coach will work alongside the junior leaders as needed, teaching them skills while allowing increasing independence as the junior leader is ready for it
  • A safe and enjoyable confidence-building experience (Applicants will be assessed for suitability).

Registration:

  • Registration materials will be available May 1st, 2010Interested applicants should apply as early as possible in May.  Enrollment is limited.
  • Placements will be confirmed, on a first come, first served basis, once the application is complete.
  • Email or call ASEA, 780-453-3971 OR autism@autismedmonton.org, ask to have a registration package sent to you.  We will need your name, email address, and phone number.
