Occasio

OccasioAutismEdmontonSummerProgram2020

Hello friends of Occasio!

We are excited to make our safe return to the Occasio Program as per the Alberta “Open for Summer Plan.” As per Alberta Health Guidelines, Occasio will be making its way back out to the community this summer! We will have a mix of events happening at various locations across the city, as well as some site-based activities at Winnifred Stewart.

Here is how our programming will look like this summer:

  • PROGRAM DETAILS: Occasio is designed for kids and youth on the autism spectrum. The junior group is for children ages 7-12; the teen group is for ages 13-18+ (past program participants can choose which age group to stay with). Occasio is not a summer camp, it's even better! This respite program is full of awesome activities that offer Autistic kids and youth opportunities to practice independence, gain confidence, make friend67s and stay active, all while providing parents with respite that they have not had during the social distancing period. Health officials across the country are increasingly emphasizing the benefits of participating in physical activities in a safe and managed environment. Occasio is working to provide an experience that offers just that, within a safe, fun and controlled environment.
  • TIMELINE (Summer programming): July 5 - August 27, 2021. Activities will run Monday through Friday, and every day we will offer two separate three and a half hour events. We will also be running events on Tuesday & Thursday evening as well as on Saturdays.
  • FORMAT: We are planning both indoor and outdoor activities. Participants should be prepared with masks (recommended), indoor (non-marking) shoes, snacks, sunscreen, hat, and any other tools they need to be happy and safe in our care.
  • HEALTH & SAFETY: Our number one priority will always be the safety of our staff and participants. As of July 1st, 2021, Edmontonians will no longer be required to wear a mask. We have chosen to require our staff still to be masking as well as encourage participants to wear their masks. We understand your child might not continue to wear a mask, and that is okay. We will be continuing with our strict cleaning procedures and ensuring that individuals are not sharing food.
For a sneak preview of what Occasio will be up to next, check out Autism Edmonton's Event Calendar. Occasio’s detailed calendar is visible only to logged-in members. You must be a member of Autism Edmonton with an active online account to register for any activities associated with the Occasio program. (Autism Edmonton membership is free!) Activities must be registered for online in order for Autism Edmonton to manage payment and administration.
Once you have logged into your Autism Edmonton Member account, you will have the ability to access your Occasio intake form and profile here. Sign up for whichever activities you like - but register early to avoid disappointment! There is a limit to the number of participants and we'd hate for you to miss out.
